I am a geography student (returned to university mid-life) with an interest in Japan, Japanese culture and language. Currently, I am studying Japanese. My wife and I will soon be hosting an exchange student from Tokyo.
The idea of altered states of consciousness, urban shamanism and Buddhism (non theistic) interest me as well.
Why are you here?
I have never had a belief in Monotheistic religions and I finally decided that I wanted to get to know more people who feel the same. In addition, I lost a good friend who was as close as a brother to literalist fundamental Christianity.
Why you left your religion.
My folks claimed to be Episcopalian Christians, but lived the lives of hypocrites, so I never was indoctrinated into their belief system. So I never truly had religious beliefs, just a strong interest in how and why things work. I guess that is why I always focused on science as a way to better understand the universe.
