seriously lol, when I hear christians acting like they're being persecuted I just want to spit in their faces and say, "well I guess it's time to reap what you've sewn!"
I love that women. Such a same she isn't with us any longer.
Oh I thought she ( the one who was pilfering money from her Atheist org.was writing about true Christians who were called "Atheists" by the Romans as well as by the false Roman church which was predicted would arise even describing some of it's teachings.(l Timothy 3:4:1-5)
For the same things she depicts for unbelievers or atheists (there have been few active atheists during the time she really is speaking about)were inflicted on Christians to the tune of over 50,000,000 during the Dark Ages.Whole families were drowned, hung, crucifed, burned alive, streched alive for days, starved, fed to lions, etc.
I have studied history since 1963,and many do not realize how vast the killing and torture of Christians was.
Anyone for any stated reason who perescured free thinker, atheists, etc was dead wrong and hopefully, at least in this country, their rights will be maintained and even fought for.Everyone must have their own beliefs.and be able to express them and this includes beleivers. All must respect each others rights, but may freely and properly debate if he or she so choses.Since we are all human there will be excesses on both sides ,etc.,but the rights of all must be preserved.
Madalyn wasn't "pilfering" money from American Atheists. That was the man who killed her, and her daughter. She was murdered because she discovered that he was stealing from the organization and then confronted him. Slandering her memory is unacceptable Dr. Davis! A little respect for the dead [especially the murdered] is needed here. Madalyn was a brilliant woman who founded one of the strongest atheist activist organizations in the country. I am a current member of this organization and would have been honored if I had had the chance to meet her, but sadly I came of age far too late.
PS... much of the "killing of christians" in past times was by OTHER CHRISTIANS!! There have been many bloody wars between catholics and protestants. The church killed anyone who dared write the bible in non-latin throughout the middle ages until the protestant reformation. Millions of innocent CHRISTIAN women were put to death as witches by OTHER christians! And the whole of the 4th crusade was directed by the church against a group of christians who believed heretical doctrines. Most of the slaying of innocent christians was done by other christians. But the time of christian persecution is over. It ended when the Roman Empire declared Christianity the official religion. The time of Christian persecution of ANYONE who disagrees has been going on ever since. And continues today.
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/robby_berry/lioaca.html Most christians who talk about being oppressed just don't realize how much our society is canted in their direction. This satirical list really brings this to light.
Actually - much worse still happens in the Islamic world today.

What a sad world, and the thing is that a lot of religious people don't even know about all this stuff their kind of people did to our kind of people. You can't even tell if someone is Atheist or not by looking at them.
Yes, This is still happening in many parts of Islamic world. And this could be stopped by expansions of media and Internet in Islamic world.
I don't know about that secret - sadly, the Islamic world needs a renaissance and reformation period - until Muslims stop accepting the quran as the literal word of god - and that criticism of Islam, Muhammad, and their faith demands execution due to Shariah - the Islamic world has a long way to go.
Yes you are right Sassan but I think If half of the population of countries like Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan have free access to internet then this world would become a peaceful place and more atheist people will come out from closet
Iranians are the exception - we are Persian - our culture and holidays are pre-islamic - and the Iranian people are not a religious people (the population, not the government) and demand nothing more and nothing less than a secular democracy. Remember - we had a pro-western government pre-1979 and miss those days - so the problem is not the Iranian people since our culture is not Islamic - but it is the rest of the Islamic world - and for Pakistan and Afghanistan - they are such absolutist and rigid Muslims - I don't see much hope in those countries (especially Pakistan). If they could - in Pakistan - Bin Laden would have been easily elected as their leader.
Lest this become yet another thread of anti-islam hatemongering, let's remember that there have been, are now, and will be barbarous acts performed on humans by other humans wherever humans are found. Religion isn't the cause of human barbarity, extremism (hatemongers and powermongers) and the complacency and ignorance of the easily lead are the true enemies; and we well know that western culture isn't by any means free of these primitive impulses. So while we combat them where we can, let's not forget that we have to keep watch on ourselves to make sure that we're not becoming what we despise.
I'm not going to debate you on here - but yes, religion and in particular Islam is the cause of human barbarity - Islam by its very fundamental tenets is barbaric and abhorrent. As Sam Harris says, "the problem with Islamic fundamentalism are the fundamentals of Islam" - and as Steven Weinberg says, "With or without religion you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion"
