The Portable Atheist - Christopher Hitchens
I was scanning the last few posts in the group and feel as though I'm about to beat a dead horse but... does anyone want to read The Portable Atheist with me? http://www.amazon.com/The-Portable-Atheist-Essential-Nonbeliever/dp...
It's 480 pages divided into 47 very short readings (Do the math!) that would take less than an hour each. It's also allegedly informative and I've been meaning to read it for a bit so I can see how informative it is. From the last few posts it seems like everyone else is equally busy so I'm just going to start reading, posting after each segment and see if anyone joins in.
Monday Aug 6th I'll start the discussion for Chapter One. If that doesn't work for anyone, please let me know before I do it.

With all the other stuff I juggle day to day I can't promise to be real involved but I've read the book and I'll follow along if there's a discussion that gets going in this thread.
Also, for those that don't have the book, many of the selections in the book are actually in the public domain, particularly the older ones. As a consequence, you can easily find them online. Here's a link to the book's Table of Contents. Searching for and finding most of the earlier selections is then just a matter of a quick Google search. For instance, Lucretius' De Rerum Natura, the first selection, is here. (Hitchens selects sections from books I, II, III, and V). The second, The Rubaiyat By Omar Khayyam, is here. And so on.
