Okay, so the way I came out as an atheist was at the end of my confirmation as a Lutheran/Catholic. I never really believed it, but my parents forced me to go and I never really resisted because I figured it was futile. However, I did have one way to assert my beliefs, that was the "Faith Story" we all had to complete in order to complete the confirmation process. So for mine I wrote 2-3 pages about the different churches I had been a part of and all of the religious training and such I had gone through in my life and it was shaping up to be an average paper until the last sentence in which I wrote "...and thats why I'm an atheist." The pastor called my parents and asked them not to bring me back and that I couldn't be confirmed. Haha my older sister still high fives me for the ballsiness of it. Parents were less enthusiastic, but supportive still.
The only sad/hard part about coming out was something my mother told me recently. She said my dad told her he felt they had failed me as parents because of it. So that made me feel bad a little, but it is what it is, everything's all good now.
If I can find a copy of the paper I'll upload it here some time.
