Comment by Joe B on April 2, 2012 at 4:26pm Vegetarians are eco-friendly, omnivores are just biodegradable ;)
Comment by Michelle Rhea on April 1, 2012 at 7:16pm Just catching this discussion now, and don't have time to go back right now and read all the posts as I'm just taking a break from readying my house for a reception for a famous (infamous?) atheist. Hope to read more later in the week. I am atheist and vegan, but I don't see any connection between the two. I am atheist because I find no evidence of any deities. I am vegan because I have compassion for all living things, not just humans. I find it strange that people who call themselves "spiritual", (and I am surrounded by them here in southern California), are not more often vegan, or, at least, vegetarian. As for the "selective freethinking" someone mentioned.... I don't see freethought as meaning one never reaches any conclusion about what one has been pondering.
Comment by Michael West on January 20, 2012 at 4:21pm I like it, Dogly. You need to put than line on t-shirt!
Comment by Mark Patrick on January 20, 2012 at 4:10pm Well said, Dogly.
Good stuff Dogly.
Thanks Mark!
Comment by Dogly on January 20, 2012 at 3:52pm I'm an atheist because I am conscious. I'm a vegan because I have a conscience.
Comment by Dogly on January 20, 2012 at 3:50pm I'm an atheist for selfish reasons. I'm a vegan for compassion.
Comment by Mark Patrick on January 20, 2012 at 2:32pm Good point Michael. Mindfulness really is the key, with a good done of logic and compassion thrown in.
Good comments, Bleached. You're probably correct that the proportion of vegans/veggies who are atheist is higher than the proportion of atheists who are vegan/veggie. I'll have to chew on the reasons for this... Cheers!
I agree Michael.
Comment by Michael West on January 20, 2012 at 12:17pm What I appreciate about Atheism and Veganism (though I am also merely a Veggie) is that they are about mindfulness and contemplating your actions. Though, they work well together each helps the world a little on its own, with people actually thinking about what the do.
