Thanks for the link John. I hope articles like this will slowly move more people towards a vegetarian diet. From my experience, self interest usually prevails over ethics for most!

Nice to have you aboard, Monica, hopefully you'll breath some life into the group's forum! : )

I, too, am surprised that the quality of the arguments on this site is so much clearer, carefully thought out, and rational, when discussing anything except the ethics of eating and using the other animals.  Suddenly, the defensive, unexamined, angry statements pour out.   The internal conflict seems to prevent the carnist from his usual ability to use well considered arguments.  Instead we get rage, personal insult, and extremely dopey excuses.  Friends, if who you are eating has left you feeling ill at ease, and sick at heart, be brave enough to really think about this conflict.  Stop avoiding all the articles and video exposing the realities of animal exploitation.  Make decisions about this subject the same way you would with anything else.  Research, reading, and honest deliberation.  Oh, and call upon your sense of justice!

Thanks Ashley, very interesting. Do you find it odd, as I do, that so much thought and debate is expended on reinforcing an atheist position, but as soon as you bring up meat eating on the forums, you get such a bunch of inane arguments?

Thanks for the contribution and welcome to the group, Ashley!

This is a good read about the psychology of eating animals. Thought I'd share :)

Wanted to share one of my favorite quotes:
"To the man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the suffering of animals than in the suffering of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime." -Romain Rolland
