Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brotherhood of the Wolf are two favorites of mine. I still need to see The Devil's Backbone.

I just looked up The Devil's Backbone. Thanks, it sounds like one I would like. Since I got netflix, I have been watching alot more foreign films. Another I want to see that my son saw at the Film Festival where I live last year is "Dead Snow". If you have Netflix you can watch it for free. It is about a group of Norwegian friends get the scariest history lesson of their lives during a weekend getaway to the snowy town of Øksfjord, where the party is interrupted by throngs of Nazi zombies who once occupied the area. Armed with a machine-gun-equipped snowmobile, the gang fights for survival in director Tommy Wirkola's quirky horror, shot on location in the mountains of Norway. The film had its U.S. premiere at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

Pan's Labyrinth is a wonderful film. If you liked Pan's Labyrinth you should watch The Spirit of the Beehive. It's another film set in Spain during the same time period and it's a beautiful and touching film. Also, The Fall is another one that you should check out.
My personal favorite foreign film is Godard's Pierrot Le Fou. It's probably my favorite movie of all time. Recently, I watched Vittorio De Sica's Umberto D and I definitely have to add it to my list of favorite foreign films (It's available to stream on Netflix).

Here is another good one, I watched recently.

"Let the Right One In" (Scandinavian)
Twelve-year-old Oskar is the constant target of bullies. But things change when he meets a new girl named Eli, a misfit vampire who he becomes friends with. The vampire helps him stand up to the bullies.

I loved Let the Right One In. Unfortunately, they're going to be doing an American remake of it.

Heck. Well if we're going to be talking about foreign horror movies, here's a list of favorites:

The Grudge(technically a hybrid but still part asian)
A Tale of Two Sisters(Korean horror fairy tale that was remade into The Uninvited)
The Eye
Ringu
Pulse: Kairo(apparently a lot of movies are called Pulse. This is the original non-screwed-up-by-Wes-Craven version)

Audition is another good one. It's probably the most accesible Takashi Miike film.

Thanks. It is hard to find good horror movies. I did see "A Tale of Two Sisters". You might like "Shutter". It is an asian horror movie about a photographer and his girlfriend who are haunted and ghostly images start appearing in his photos.

I can't choose only one!

The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen) stayed with me long after watching it. I also enjoyed Cinema Paradiso, Les Diaboliques and the films based on Stieg Larsson's Millenium-series (to my horror, I heard these will be remade by Americans). I adore Michael Nyqvist and think he is ideal for the role of Mikael Blomkvist. I've only seen the first two so far - "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" (Män som hatar kvinnor) and "The Girl Who Played with Fire" (Flickan som lekte med elden).
