This story hit too close to home and brought me to tears:

A 28-year-old Kirkland mother of four, who was found slain Monday, had twice sought protection orders against an ex-boyfriend. In her petition to the courts, she wrote, “A piece of paper isn’t going to save my life when he finally gets me, but at least you will know who killed me.”

I can't begin to even explain how this makes me feel.

That is one of the errors in the only two systems i know (mine and US). I know France has a shelter for women that were abused by their spouses and this should be adopted by all.

This happens every two weeks on my country and many go unannounced because the authorities want the women to present the court order to her husband, by herself because cops don't want to.

Recently, my significant and I suffered a set back of personal records & identification being stolen. We had most of the material returned a few days later, but the damage did not max-out till about ten days after that.

The 'kids', 18 year olds, were caught and then spent about 45 days in jail, during which time be continued to post bills and on-going costs to their records! Just a few days ago we appeared in court for their hearing/judgement, but they had been given bail about 8 days before, and failed to show to the court appearance. They were able to post bail to the amount of $2700, with our total damages accumulated to about $1400.

Since they did not appear, they now have a $340000 bail amount hanging over their heads, four federal charges, and an arrest warrent waiting for them.

During the hearing, the judge was over heard to say to their attorney, 'so where did they get the money?, just great!'.

We sat there for two hours before their hearing, thinking that something 'positive might come from it. We have been advised to 'make sure' we lock our doors and windows, that the police would be willing to come do a 'security check' on our apartment, to basicly 'watch our backs'.

At the court, we noticed that one of the kid's mothers was sitting behind us crying, but we were afraid to consol her....;-(
