Welcome back, Robyn. Where have you been? Would you like to be the voice of T|A and host/cohost a radio show?!

If the theory is to tax that what are truly harmful, to raise money to offset their costs to society, then besides alcohol, cigs, sugar, they ought to tax all foods that are processed, full of salt, contain many ingredients not traditionally in foods, or have parts of the whole food removed, like white bread. The only things that shouldn't be so taxed are whole foods, fruits and veggies, fresh meats and seafoods, whole grains and whole grain containing foods. This would tax all the gawdawful frozen meals(used to be called "TV dinners"), hot pockets, sausage and lunch meats(but not real cheese), snacks and crisps, etc. Basically all the crap that most supermarkets fill all the aisles with, while all the healthy foods are out on the perimeter, like the fresh produce, dairy and meats, and bakery stuff. When I shop, I try to avoid the middle of the store's aisles.

To me, the actual "sin" taxes are the prohibition on vices that are victimless crimes, like marijauna and drugs, prostitution, gambling, etc. Things that places like Holland seem to have no problem with being legal, or at least not criminal, and are well regulated, and help with their avoidance is readily available.

Well, I guess I am at least somewhat pleased that taxes are going up on sugar if they're going up on alcohol and cigs. There are a lot of fat Christians who dine on sugar-products; they'll feel the affects of their own sin deprivation soon.
