I just read a great Interview with Futurist-Inventor Ray Kurzweil in Selected Essays on Technology, Creativity, by Cory Doctorow
Its something that I have been pondering on for a few years now.
I think the most interesting part will be what kind of events lead up to it.
I am seriously thinking of creating a graphic novel  so I take  every opportunity to discuss it and see what kind of ideas people have about what is going to happen.

Its introduced in the piece as

The Singularity — a notion that’s crept into a lot of skiffy, and
whose most articulate in-genre spokesmodel is Vernor Vinge
— describes the black hole in history that will be created at the
moment when human intelligence can be digitized. When the
speed and scope of our cognition is hitched to the price-perfor-
mance curve of microprocessors, our “progress” will double every
eighteen months, and then every twelve months, and then every
ten, and eventually, every five seconds.

I feel there will be possibly be  a race between nanotech artificial intelligence., more conventional normal sized computer based A.I and cyborgs (enhanced humans particularly with brain enhancements). to take control of the earth.

I know for certain the tech will only be at the disposal of the elite but I also suspect that they will end up being controlled by it.

I have a vision of an A.I. taking control of all the worlds resources through the internet and manifesting as a GOD to the un-enhanced  majority.

What do you think?
