Even though these are cliche:
Star Trek: the Next Gen
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (radio show)
Stargate SG-1
Bladerunner
Huzzah. Red Dwarf.
Doctor Who, both original and new, though doctor #10 is still my favorite.
Star Trek, original, next gen, enterprise
Torchwood
X-Files
Star Wars (just the first three, or episodes 4 thru 6)
Quantum Leap
Moon
The Planet of the Apes (original)
Alien & Aliens (tending toward horror sci-fi here)
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Galaxy Quest
The Forge of God by Greg Bear
Any books by Anne McCaffrey

And I'm even more into Fantasy, which makes me far pickier at the horrible tv and films made in this genre.
Lord of the Rings (books and movie)
Dragonslayer
Any books by Mercedes Lackey
Science fiction books and stories: anything by Vernor Vinge.

I really like science fiction short stories...the best being from the 60s and 70s. There are some great speculative (usually more like "soft" science fiction and fantasy crossover) stories however in the small press zines during the past decade, for instance in Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet.

I have read a Vernor Vinge and really liked it.  I can't remember what is was but I know I liked it.  Do you have a suggested reading list for his best (IYO)

I'll have to go with favorite books. Mostly I read fantasy novels.
GRRM - A Song od Ice & Fire series (Can't wait for A Game of Thrones on HBO!)
R. A. Salvatore - Just about anything he has written. Bob is a great writer. His Corona novels are fantastic, but he is better known for his Drizzt Do'Urden novels.
Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman - Dragonlance (they wrote all the core books, which are really good. Other authors wrote the filler books. There are more than 300 books. A lot of them are good... some, not so much.)
Ed Greenwood - Elminster novels. Ed created the Forgotten Realms, and he's a great author.
JK Rowling - Harry Potter. I know they are children's books, but I love them. Read the series at least 4 times.
Philip Pullman - His Dark Materials
Stephen King. Just finished Under the Dome. Amazing!
Anne Rice - Vampire Chronicles & Mayfair Witches. I prefer my vampires to be deadly, not sparkly.
