Richard Dawkins appeared on the Australian ABC program Q&A last night. He did an excellent job considering he was outnumbered 5:1 on the panel.

Scientific Thinking And Moral Philosophy - Richard Dawkins

Richard Dawkins @ Big Think: While science is indelibly distinct from the field of ethics, Richard Dawkins believes that there are a number of ways in which its facts and reasoning could greatly benefit our ability to understand and repair the worlds suffering.

God Delusion is a great start then, and I'd advice checking out the following books by other authors, too:

Godless - Dan Barker
It's the story of an ex-evangelical preacher who turned to atheism when the voice of reason started to reach him. Great book, and very informative. It'll give you the information you need to make a strong arguement.

Demon Haunted World - Carl Sagan

Not so much an atheism book as it is agnosticism in general, but this book helped me more than any other. It explains why science and reason are so important.
