Mankind naturally and generally love to be flatter'd: Whatever sooths our Pride, and tends to exalt our Species above the rest of the Creation, we are pleas'd with and easily believe, when ungrateful Truths shall be with the utmost Indignation rejected. "What! bring ourselves down to an Equality with the Beasts of the Field! with the meanest part of the Creation! 'Tis insufferable!" But, (to use a Piece of common Sense) our Geese are but Geese tho' we may think 'em Swans; and Truth will be Truth tho' it sometimes prove mortifying and distasteful.
- Benjamin Franklin

"The Christian concept of original sin - the punishment of future generations for the sins of parents, and God's example behaviour in the Bible, are monstrously immoral, and other traditional sets of values such as the seven deadly sins and ten commandments are, when you actually inspect them, more suited to barbarians than civilised man. Christianity's best morals happen to also be those espoused by nearly every other religion and philosophy and as such, in itself, Christianity is morally worthless and has contributed nothing to the world."

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."
—Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823

Some of our founding fathers admit that religion is useless, aside from using it to control the morals of the human race.

"We had wealth of beautiful lands, and they had a little black book, next thing we had their book, and they had our land"

Rodney Roach:
Ralphie! I'm surprised at you! Does this mean you're giving up?

Ralph Roach:
Give up? Give up? What are you saying to me? How come us roaches have been able to outlast the dinosaurs? How do we survive poison and persecution? How do we keep on crawling, in the face of overwhelming odds? I'll tell you how: because WE NEVER GIVE UP! A true cockroach never gives up. They can stomp us, they can pop us, but they'll never ever stop us. Someday the great H-bomb is gonna drop, and we'll have the whole planet to ourselves.
I don't care if we gotta call in favors from every roach, rat, and pigeon in New York City. WE AIN'T GIVING UP ON JOE!

movie: Joes Apartment... greatest movie in the world.. Also the reason i am not allowed to pick the movie anymore

"Ignorance is an evil weed, which dictators may cultivate among their dupes, but which no democracy can afford among its citizens." ~ William Beveridge

"Forcible ways make not an end of evil, but leave hatred and malice behind them." ~ Thomas Browne

"Gays are not oppressed on a whim, but because of the specific need of capitalism for the nuclear family. The nuclear family fulfills an important need for capitalism. Alternative sexualities represent a threat to the family model because they provide an alternative role model for people. Gays are going to be in the front line of attack whenever capitalism wants to reinforce family values." ~ Louise Tierney

"A censor is a man who knows more than he thinks you ought to." ~ Laurence Peter

"Jesus railed more against hypocrisy than any other sin. The sheer number of Christians who fail to understand this is what drove me away from the churches." ~ CS Lewis

@Skycomet - I've been saying for a long time that god sounds like the kid who's always saying, "It's my ball and I'm going home!" :)

"If ye will not hear [my word], and if ye will not lay it to heart [believe it], to give glory unto my name, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings [food?]: yea, I have cursed them already because ye do not lay it to heart.

Behold! I will corrupt your seed [sperm and ova] and spread dung on your faces..." - God, Malachi 2: 2-3

Sounds like God is quite a character! "I will corrupt your seed and spread dung on your faces..."

God reminds me of a spoild child who throws a temper tantrum and breaks his toys when he doesn't get what he wants.

There is little hope for the lost minds. Their emancipation comes from within and no outsider can help. Yet so few free themselves. - Me
