Dallas, you've not taken Monty Python's killer rabbit into consideration there!

When we follow the instructions of other thoughtlessly, accept the authority of others without question, we are not thinking critically. To reason critically is to think for yourself by chalenging authority and critically examining dogma, that is, unquestioned knowledge claims.

"You're a fucking stooge. If you replaced the threats of lumps of coal in your stockings with eternal fire in hell, you'd still believe in Santa Claus too."

Science works! Planes fly! Magic carpets and Broom sticks don't! If you don't believe science works you're invited to jump from a 10th story building and see what happens ..... - Richard Dawkins

Be kind, Learn lots!

If it's not kind or you're not learning from it you probably shouldn't be doing it - Peta M

Give A Man A fish And He Will Eat For A Day; Teach A Man To Fish And He Will Eat For A Lifetime; Give A Man Religion And He Will Die Praying For A Fish.

Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell. Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love. There is nothing more; but I want nothing more. -Christopher Hitchens

Comment by Samuel Tyson Cook on January 3, 2013 at 2:06pm

“We godless lack that certainty, and we know the world is a complex place that requires compromise and is not ruled by a moral force — virtue is subject to negotiation, and is found in working together with others to find mutually satisfactory solutions. Good is not absolute, it is an emergent property that arises from successful networks of individuals. It is also something that is measured by evidence: we look at the good that people do, not the promises that they make and never keep, or the lies that dovetail nicely into dogma. Competence is a virtue. Intent is meaningless without action.”
– PZ Myers
