"You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get people to stop reading them." ~ Ray Bradbury

"Naturally, what makes patriotic and religious fanatics such dangerous opponents is not the deaths of the fanatics themselves, but their willingness to accept the deaths of a fraction of their number in order to annihilate or crush their infidel enemy. Fanaticism in war, of the type that drove recorded Christian and Islamic conquests, was probably unknown on Earth until chiefdoms and especially states emerged within the last 6,000 years." - Jared Diamond in "Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fate of Human Societies"

Yes, Richard Jeni - RIP.
A man acquainted with history may, in some respect, be said to have lived from the beginning of the world, and to have been making continual additions to his stock of knowledge in every century.
- David Hume

"The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way. Persecution is used in theology, not in arithmetic." ~Bertrand Russell

“One of the greatest challenges facing civilization in the 21st century is for human beings to speak about their deepest concerns – about ethics, spiritual experience, and human suffering in ways that are not flagrantly irrational. Incompatible religious doctrines have Balkanised our world and these divisions have become a continuous source of bloodshed. Words like "God" and "Allah" must go the way of "Apollo" and "Baal" or they will unmake our world.”
– Sam Harris in Times April 2005.

And I can understand his position. My experience in Congregational Church – made in USA – has unmade my world. My world fragmented in one million peaces. Still recuperating; thanks to the presence of web-sites like this.

“On the dogmas of religion, as distinguished from moral principles, all mankind, from the beginning of the world to this day, have been quarreling, fighting, burning and torturing one another, for abstractions unintelligible to themselves and to all others, and absolutely beyond the comprehension of the human mind.” ~Thomas Jefferson

Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative.
John Stuart Mill
