I'm fortunate to be part of a one-of-a-kind program that helps single mothers and their children who have experienced domestic violence heal and get better....
My son an I have experienced a lot of violence in the home. My son (6yrs old) has reached a new stage. He expresses his anger by hitting/kicking/scratching/biting me.
It's incredibly scary. But I'm thankful that I've learned (and am still learning the skills to deal with it.
I have started to learn CDI skills as part of PCIT (see link)
It's very heart-breaking to see your own child try to assault you...I don't use that term lightly. I'm fortunate to have the resources to help me, but I do worry what's going to happen when my son is stronger than me. I can only hope my intervention works, and is not sabotaged by the contact with his father.
Anyway...a resource for parents. I am also curious if anyone knows if PCIT is backed by legit science....thanks!
