Actually Jean he was my stepfather. My mother's third (and longest) husband. His two favorite things to listen to was Bob Marley and Billy Joel. But because he got exercise and a proper diet the doctors said he lasted as long as he did with Alzheimer's. He also managed to walk my little sister down the aisle last year too. Wasn't a dry eye in the house. Including mine. (and I don't do that) It was a couple of months later he went to hospice.

Everyone should have their advanced directives filled out with their provider. Signed and dated. Those instructions must also be conveyed to loved ones. (Loud and clear). We shouldn't have to see any more Schiavo's. We shouldn't have to need any more Kevorkians. We should have a right to choose our personal plan of treatment and to deny further treatment and to choose our expiration date if the need arises. We also shouldn't have the right to order or deny treatment for another.

If I am riddled with cancer I want the pain managed and I want to go peacefully listening to my favorite music.

My stepfather was in his 90's when he lost his fight with Alzheimer's this past December. Every night he listened to his favorite Bob Marley cd. on his last day, when the cd completed playing, so did he.

Hi Jean,
It took me a while to join the group because I first needed to change my login in name and pic. (I'm on your friends list so it may take a moment or two for you to figure out who I is/was)

I'm an EMR implementer (ok everyone all at once BOO-HiiiSSSS) and I work closely with a large number of medical practices across the country. But I have to maintain some anonymity when I post on these boards due to the odd number of religiously oriented practices I am forced to deal with. (Almost all of them are in the south, big surprise there).

If anyone has questions about electronic medical records or getting started, or how it affects Meaningful Use or PQRI, I'll be happy to try to help. But only as a fellow atheist not as a way of getting my company additional business. (I got out of the sales side years ago.)
