I think that episode of Family Guy was one of the most positive and realistic portrayals of atheism I have seen on screen. But I looked on the skeptical blogs and there was barely a peep uttered about it! Glad to see it positively influenced someone else :)

whenever I have an argument with my parents one of the low blow reply's I get is, somewhere along the lines of "oh you don't know the world around you, and your wrong about religion". I told me dad that I was an atheist and he just flat out told me I was wrong. My being an atheist always gets thrown in my face during arguments and I try my hardest not to turn his beliefs on his ear. I feel that there is so much that HE does not know about the world around him, but I chose to keep the peace, and I realize that he is going to cling to his beliefs no matter what, so there is no use in trying. Oh well, I suppose I shall turn the other cheek like their religion teaches them to do. oh and, I'm sick and tired of my "open minded" christian friends starting fights with me, telling me that I am the one that is closed minded.

I agree. I live with "non-literal" theists.... but that doesn't stop the questions. No matter how non-literal a theist claims to be, there are some passages that have to be taken literally for one to be a traditional Christian. Specifically, the "holy" gospels of the New Testament. I started to truly ask questions after reading a book called "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalists." - Although a theist wrote it, it is very useful when confronting Fundamentalists like your family cAmrin. John Shelby Spong may be a Bishop, but don't let that deter you! He is most definitely a liberal theist and brings up many of the same points that we as atheists do. I just disagree with him that one can remain christian believing that the bible is not literal without hacking it to pieces and picking and choosing what's literal and what's not.

and yes once upon a time i was a theist up until about the prime age of 12-13.. i was a theist until i started asking questions.. like... whats the bible say about dinosaurs, what about Noah's arc how did he get dinosaurs in there.. people really lived to 900+ years old ? simple stupid questions like that.

I'm still living with my parents(hardcore theist's) atm, and living with 2 full grown adults who believe in magic.. witches... sorcery.. demons... god.. prophecy(aka psychics) evolution is a giant conspiracy.. believing that what most the bible says is literal truth.. and apparently in my household i'm the crazy one.

Im in college and im living at home with my 3 heavily theist family members. I am forced to go to church every sunday, and pray before every meal with my family. Im still a closest atheist, and i probably will never tell them.

Well, for my part, I'm living with a very religious grandmother, my "kind of" religious mom, my partially agnostic father and my little sister who i hope turns atheist while she becomes a doctor...aditionally I have an older sister, that does not live with us, that has joined a pentecostal church (i think) not long ago....which is kind of sad for me. I also have two dogs, a stray cat, and a bunch of hamsters living with me...hahaha.

Welcome to "I'm Living with Theists!"
I myself am living with 4 conservative Christians, 2 dogs, a Rabbit [and a partridge in a pair tree, lol].
I am the only atheist in my family [currently]
Also, I chose a picture of family guy for the group picture, because I remembered the "Not all Dogs Go to Heaven" episode, and how much I could look at Brian [the atheist dog's] experiences and go "I've been there. I've been there. I've been there]
