Photographs of women, mostly postcards from India, tempt a buyer. "These men haven't seen any photographs depicting the human female form since the arrival of the Taliban seven years ago," says Stanmeyer. "Selling such items is allowed again now, and women in Afghanistan are still wearing burkas, so there's this great demand for pictures of women in full view."

Countless women beg in order to eke out a meager living in Kabul, says Stanmeyer. "During the Taliban all women lost their jobs," he points out, "and many women lost their husbands to decades of war."

A salesman shows a veiled client a new burka inside his store in Kabul. The fabric comes from S. Korea, but the Burkas are actually assembled in Afghanistan. They cost around $15 (U.S.) for a new one.

I think what bothers me the most about things like this is that religion is protected as a right by a majority of the powerful people in the world. People just hide their atrocities behind this blanket term of religion and all everyone can do, apparently, is turn a blind eye and shrug. Why aren't more people opening their eyes and mouths about stuff like this? This is not okay. I'm reminded of every Hitchens video I've ever seen where he damagingly slates religious atrocities and religious apologists. I would like to think that humanity is heading towards a period of secular humanism and enlightenment (a questionable term to use considering the actual Enlightenment period, I know), but when I see things like this it's as though all the evolutionary throwbacks are joining together to eradicate all non-religious, non-male, non-misogynistic, non-heterosexual, questioning people.

The video about `Sharia law` does make me wonder how a religion can allow this barbarous draconian behaviour? Where is their humanity? are they completely unfeeling? let the punishment fit the crime.
It also reminds me of how little, we as a species have really evolved since we were first able to walk, still violent, still barbaric, men still trying to impose their dominance in society, still believing in stories of the past, despite the overwhelming evidence against them. We have a long way to go.

It was recommended to me that I post this in this group. It's a video about Sharia law practiced on women in Islam, and it's really shocking. It's a poem narrated to a slideshow of pictures which are
Not For Sensitive Viewers.
I have also just posted a blog about this:
Why All Carbon-Based Bipeds Should be Anti-Theistic Atheists.

I hope you all find the video as shocking and moving as I did.

Uh, a painful divorce is worse that rape? Lol. Can we forcibly sodomize him and then ask him to reevaluate him statement?

Wow!!! That's probably the most ignorant argument I've ever read in my life.
