Hey, guys! I'm a former fundies/Southern Baptist. In fact, I worked for the Tennessee Baptist Convention for 3.5 years and the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee in Nashville for almost four. I attended and graduated from two Southern Baptist universities. Top that! Hahahaha...anyway, now I'm an atheists and so glad to find a group like this.

My family helped start a Southern Baptist Church in Northern Minnesota - right on the Canadian border. It started as a home church and grew. I went forward and was baptized while attending that church. We eventually left the Southern Baptist circles and though we attended many other Baptist denominations - not Southern. They are responsible for about 5 years of indoctrination.

Went to So. Baptist christian school for 2.5 years - and hated it. (Forrest Hills Christian School in and around Stone Mountain, GA). Went there from end of 4th through 7th grades, and by the end of 7th grade I was already "non-religious", questioning EVERYTHING. I got paddled a lot for that. ;)

I was forced to go to a Southern Baptist church in Ky every summer. It was terrible. The brimstone and fire sort. Services always scared me. *shudders*

Hopefully we will get some bites here. I think that former southern baptists have a unique view of their world. Most of our life we have this religion basically force fed down our throats to the point where if you dont agree with them, they can get down right violent. Some wonder why some Athiests appear rude, condescending....well, when thats the way the church has done your whole life, how do you expect them to act when they believe in something else? This is not an excuse for those rude atheists, but its justifiable for a short time.
