Did they do the Pledge of Allegiance at school? When I lived in Illinois, I remember doing it, but I recall that there were still hard feelings after the Civil War and my school didn't do the Pledge in the 80's. Weird.
Boy do I ever know where you're coming from. I lived there for about 15 years, from elementary school through my first couple years of college. I hate to say it, but as folks in SC get older, more and more of them get mired down in their Bronze Age Bullshit.
When I was in 5th grade, we didn't have a moment of silence. Nope. We had a woman come and teach a Bible class once a week. The only way to get out of it was to have your parents sign a note. Mine didn't want to make waves because I was new in the school, but years later I heard a friend of mine didn't go because her dad signed her out of it. All the teachers gave her grief for not going to their Christian club.
Speaking of Christian Clubs, have you heard about the Clover High School Football team? I wonder how many of the 13 seniors who were kicked off the team for sexual assault/hazing were members of FCA!
Hang in there Clarissa. There are other Atheists in SC.
