I especially liked the part where she told him that according to Sharia, he was allowed to look at her once, but any more than that, was forbidden, and yet he was looking at her, violating his own law.

Poetic justice!

I'm glad they don't imprison people here for insulting and defaming, I would never see the light of day again --

@arch ... here in Egypt we had a similar argument between an actress and a cleric and she managed to sue him and he's now in jail for defaming and insulting her

things like that just gives me hope.

"I can imagine one Muslim faking atheism to try to expose the rest of you."

I considered that possibility too, but concluded that no faithful Muslim would dare to appear to blaspheme, in order to entrap other blasphemers - I can't imagine they could believe their Allah would understand.

I've noticed a lot of new members on this site from Cairo.  This is of course encouraging.

However.  I am a bit paranoid.  Perhaps I have studied too much Russian history.

Be very careful should you decide to get together in real life; I can imagine one Muslim faking atheism to try to expose the rest of you.

Good luck.  Hopefully some day Islam will be on the ash heap of history

This, from The Secular Coalition For America:

"Things are quiet at the United Nations, as the Human Rights Council ended several weeks ago, and the General Assembly has several more weeks before it moves to the specific issues of freedom of religion, belief, and expression. Yet, on a related note, this past Monday, September 30 was International Blasphemy Rights Day, sponsored by the Center for Inquiry to recognize the day the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published a dozen cartoons lampooning the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In recognition of this day, CFI hosted an online discussion with Kacem El Ghazzali, an atheist who was forced to leave Morocco for announcing his disbelief in God and advocacy for open discussion on religion. You can watch that here. CFI also announced a Twitter contest challenging users to express in 140 characters or less why the right to criticize religion is important. You can read more about that here."
