Hey Hope, this is a fascinating interview. I'm definitely going to buy the book at some point. I completely agree with her that a macho man is not necessarily a real man. A macho man tends to be somebody who has not faced their own weaknesses and insecurity.
I thought this was going to be about how the Superman character is thought to have originated in the Muslim world. I understand that there's some kind of masked avenger character in Arab folklore, and this made it to Mexico via Moorish Spain, and emerged as Zorro. Then this character got appropriated as Superman.
