The state “does not recognize atheism, as a belief or religion, by law,” says Sherif Azer of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights.
While Atheism is neither a belief nor a religion it would appear that the State or at least the law assumes that Atheism means a denial of god’s existence rather than a lack of belief in the same. If you are not with us then you must be against us is the implication. This means that the State can crack down on anything it sees as undermining its power. The religious leaders will call the political activists “Atheists” to ensure their political influence continues while the political leaders will support such moves to keep the powerful religionist close to them.
Only when religion is separated fully from politics can a nation develop. Freedom from religion for those who don’t believe. Freedom of religion for those that do believe. Respect.
