Would like to visit Alexandria this summer. How are things for Atheists there? There is a post about looking to put Atheists in jail and another about a person speaking on TV. So, not to sure?

Hi ... i am really glad to see a group of atheists who are not just egyptians but are more concerned in the problems we face in our community and supporting each other more than just trying to convince everyone that god does not exist ... I am also glad that you are able to meet ... i guess most of you are living in cairo but for someone like me who lives in lower egypt i feel like meeting even a secular or even just a liberal person is imposible ... most people here are very very religious it would not be a problem if they could accept me the way i am but they could not ... however i still love all the people here around me and i would not be able to stand being hated by them so i continue pretending being muslim but i can't pretend being religious that is too much for me i would take showing out as a liberal with some secularity and the basis of mild sides of islam ... i dropped prays except for friday pray my family annoyed me a little but it still fine and our relation is pretty good ..... i would like to ask you have you ever known or just heard about atheists or even just seculars in lower egypt because sometimes l feel kind of alone here .... have anyone of you told his family that he or she is atheist ... how did they react ... and for secret atheists how do you trust each other guys because i could imagine alot of people who would happily pretend being atheist to expose you for the sake of their god and for taking revenge from your (evilness)

@archaeopteryx Well minorities always behave well in order to keep living in whichever foreign country they're in. Their true colours are revealed when you look at how they treat minorities in muslim-predominant countries. Or they have just inherited the muslim 'label' from their parents and don't really abide by religion themselves in their life (like the liquor store owner).
Another example would be how the Brits are pretty pissed off at how the Muslims are slowly changing the country to their islamic lifestyle (as they're becoming a good percentage of the population).
Celsus' comments would apply perfectly to Islam as well. Although I don't know who's exactly controlling people using Islam, and what's he gaining from it? Politicians have tried it but it didn't work for so long here..

@Medo I, too, believe that our society is veeeery slowly dumping religion. People can't be fooled forever and are no longer isolated from other ideas like they were 20 years ago. The process would be accelerated if we could openly criticise religion and raise people's awareness, but that's not allowed for a reason ;)
I hope that I could see a major change before I'm like 70 years old though ._.
Feel free to msg/add me on FB if u want [If your family aren't watching ur msgs too]. I just blocked most of my family(and hid posts from the rest) and told them I stopped using FB because it's a waste of time :D

Thanks archaeopteryx & Mohamed Zaki for your welcome, i think that our society with current raising questions about religious conflicts will turn secular in few years hoping that economic situation will improve to help towards this step..

Welcome Sammy , i feel your words coz i am gonna explode too:)

i even cannot discuss my thoughts in FB because i am also watched by my family and my friends and when i made alternative account in FB they blocked it because they doubt that its a fake one :(
