Depression/ Bipolar Support

Support group for those dealing with Depression/ Bipolar conditions.

I deal with depression on a daily basis. I am also bipolar.

I've found that , in most areas, the only support offered is Faith based. Something I do not like.

Post how you deal with depression, or bipolar "disorder". If you take medications that work for you tell us. If you take some that don't work or have side effects let us know.

You are not alone.

Hello everyone. I'm a girl from Finland and would like to join your friend on here. I am bipolar type I. This was a brief presentation of this sort myself. Sounds like my English might be funny. I am trying to communicate, and I learned this at the same time that language.

Erika. do you know how long it has been since I have had pizza??
I wanna jump in about being 14 and BD. I know now I had it then and I sure as hell wish someone spotted it and we got a jump on managing it then. Untreated it gets worse with each bout.
BD needs to be handled just like juvenile diabeedeez (gave up trying to get THAT right..hooked on fonix) Diet, exercise, sleep..thats a huge one, sleep. all need to be put into play just as meds.
And meds are often a customized "cocktail" . And even when the balance is found, often has to get tune ups. Lamictal/lamotrigine is a anti seisure med that works as a mood stablizer. Tho lithium is often a 1st line treatment.. gosh, Im sounding like a TV ad.
Is this young ladies' mom someone you talk with? Is dialog open to you both on the subject?
Yeah. Im pissed about my hair! Toxins affect hair follicles .it sucks. I may have to go for wigs. (bad enuf my brunette daughter talked blond mom into going brunette one day... I have lost my identity.)
Is this your 1st depression Erika? Is it seasonal for you? Stress related?
I keep forgetting Pizza is an option. Go check, Pizza can leave an orange ring too.

Pizza. Thanks for the easy question.
I'm doing really well right now; had therapy today and it's become so "routine" that nobody at home asked, "How'd it go?"
What in the world does lamotrigine do that makes your hair thin out?
For both Jay and Michael...I'm just diagnosed with "one pole", but my daughter has a bipolar friend and then, reading your posts makes me curious...what are your medications supposed to do, exactly. Do they do some kind of magic in balancing seratonin? adrenalin? dopamine? And, Michael, when the disorder was messing up your career and relationships, were you on medication? What would the two of you suggest for a 14 year old girl who is bipolar?

To Erika,
hmmm what shall I write? I suck at poetry and I never get any of it anyway. What should I write?
When I was a kid (back in the BradyBunchDaze) we would be playing wiffle ball in the street and the moms would start calling us in for dinner.. two brothers and a sister 1st. Then the two sister's across the street and so forth. later, we each escape the dinner table asap to head back to resume the fierce competition, We'd sit on the curb waiting for the teams to fill back up,, The big question that had to be answered as each kid returned.."whatcha have for supper?" (except when a kid has spugetti, the orange ring around their mouth gave it away)
So? Erika? Whatcha have for supper?

Hey ya Michael,
so you and I are the BD is the group so far? Weird row to hoe aint it? Im in the middle of shifting off my lamotrigine which has done wonders this past yr, but my hair is getting thin from it YIKES! So Im tapering off and going on Geodon, Its only been 5 days and after a yr of level, I feel mania rising up. ( I could catch up on sorting the closets, but) I think I'll be calling my Dr tomorrow. The cost for a mania trip is to expensive.
Keep on coming on back here Michael ? When you can take a minute.
Nice to meet you.

I'm glad to see that there are still people contributing. It's helpful to read your posts. I just don't have the energy today to write much. Thanks for the read.

Hi All! Sorry i havn't said much in the group.

First off thanks for joining. I know it's tough to get understanding about our issues. I've found many people who want to help have no idea what it's like.

The comments have been amazing. You all seem to know exactly what it is like and each of you have your own way of coping. Sharing those methods can really help others.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to post them in the forum about, or here in the comments. I 'm sure someone will be able to answer.

Hi Wendy, and warm greetings to everyone in this group.
It is good ( I'm hoping) to find this group and to find it here on TA.
Unless you have been through it, you just wouldn't get it, am I right?
I have Bipolar type II. My manias are not that high, but my downs are FEROCIOUSLY down due to what I believe is the "kindling effect" over all these years.
To everyone here in this group. Do not allow the "black dog" to stay in your home...your head.
It is the most difficult thing to do, to sound all, nerdy, afterschoolspecially to tell someone.. "I'm starting to feel that roll down the hill, I'm gonna make a Dr's appointment. Can I call you when I'm falling off the floor?" You have to have at least one person to say that to.. My grown daughter is mine.. who is yours??
If you can not answer that right now.. that is this week's homework assignment.

My mailbox is open. I'm very discrete . And I sure know how the really bad times are.. And MOST importantly, I know they never never last.

You're lucky, Jeff! My anxiety/depression is 'clinical' and I'm told I will need to be on medication for the rest of my life; it's a chemical imbalance. Actually, as long as the meds work, I don't mind. I used to hate to take anything (even a tylenol for a headache), but now I appreciate being able to live a normal life.

I just added abilify to my cymbalta this last week. I feel much better and no real side effects so far. I was totally surprised that I was able to see a difference within 2 days. LOL...its my ignorital. If you don't know what that is, check out this clip from an episode of the simpsons.
