I am new to this group, but not new to the issues faced by atheists with mental health challenges.
Over the last few years, there has been a huge movement to require publicly-funded mental health services to promote religious/spiritual "recovery" practices to all recipients of their services. I am talking about Medicaid/Medicare funded programs, not the traditional church-funded halfway houses and homeless shelters. Many of the national mental health advocacy organizations have either supported this effort, or kept quiet out of fear of being accused of being anti-religious.
I realise that this group was created to provide a forum for support, and not political activism. But I was wondering if there was interest among members here to develop a political movement to address the mental health needs of the non-religious. If so, I would be willing to develop a new website to support that effort.
