Thanks for the kick.  I have been a little disappointed in the lack of interest in this group.  As you can tell very few of its member have added disscusions other than myself.  I will try to get back and add new events and ideas to get this group excited about cycling and hopefully get more particapation.

Fellow cyclists, thanks for this group! I yesterday Googled "atheist bicycle" and the link for Think Atheist came up. What luck. Intelligent people who bike? Wow!!
History: I'm late 50's and had been running for 30 years. My orthopedist said I ruined my back and to stop running/walking completely and take up swimming or cycling. I hate swimming (you know the feeling when you have worked to exhaustion - then you drown? - I hate that feeling). So, although I didn't care much at first for biking I have now really gotten into it. I bike 10 miles a day, rain or shine and then 20 miles a day on weekends. I have put about 4K on my semi-cheap mountain/road bike and now my back has started hurting again. So recumbents here I come. I loved the video Maggie's recumbent (WOW, what a bike and to have the shop tools to make it!!! IMPRESSIVE). So I am looking for recumbents and want to get into touring too. It would be so Epicurean (atheist) to retire to bike touring. Although I am in the Bay Area in the future it would be nice to join some of you for a tour.

Wow Gina sounds like for only riding two years you are doing really well. Hybrid bikes often make really good touring bikes. A friend of mine has converted his mountain bike into a touring bike. He really likes it. I belong to a touring group here in Arizona. I will send you the links. We would love to have you join us. Alot of the tours are a very easy 3 day weekend type.

Hey there fellow cycling enthusiasts :-) I ride for pleasure and health down in Sierra Vista, AZ. I started riding a couple of years ago (at the encouragement of a good friend) on the roads with an old mountain bike. After hybridizing it out as much as possible and still wanting to go a little faster and a little easier up the mountain roads, I finally bought a road bike. I got a Trek Pilot, which is just relaxed enough a ride for me, and it has a triple on the rear. I don't use that lowest gear much anymore, but it's comforting to know it's there! I haven't yet put the knobbies back on the mountain bike, but that's on my to-do list. I'd love to take it out on some trails, as it was designed to do. One of my dreams is to do some touring, but I don't have the right bike for that yet, plus I don't get a whole lot of time off of work. This year some of the rides I'm signed up to do include Tour de Phoenix, Tour of the Tucson Mountains, Mount Lemmon Hill Climb, and Ride the Rockies. When I'm not doing organized riding, I'm either riding on the weekends with friends or just riding by myself around Cochise County. One of my favorite local rides is Sierra Vista to Bisbee and back. During the week I usually catch a Spin class at a local gym, mostly because the logistics of getting in a ride on a work day is easier with a Spin class. With the weather being so beautiful now though, I may do two or three work days a week riding up to Ramsey Canyon and back (only 20 miles r/t, but a nice hill). I look forward to talking cycling with all of you!
