Hi Andrew... thanks for taking the initiative!!  Unfortunately I'll be travelling that week (I travel a lot for work...) so we'll have to shoot for another date if I'm gonna hang :(  Your idea of a coffe/bar service to accomodate a wider audience is a great one...  I'm wide open the week after that, or even the day after that.  But I won't write anything in blood ;)  hah.

all right so it looks as though we have some interest from non legal age and quite frankly, I have kids so... not a whole lot of opportunities for me to drink freely (just more reason to do so). So I'm thinking we may be well served at a place that does both coffee and bar service like Mojoe lounge in the short north or german village. If anybody has nights of the week that may work better for them please feel free to speak up! I would like to tentatively suggest wednesday evening (works for jesus!) the 22nd 6:30-8? I work bankers hours so I don't party like I used to and I don't think a weekend night would be all that conducive to conversation. Once again this is all changeable I'm just getting the ball rolling and any feedback helps! I will make it clear when we have something in written in blood!

I was reading through the comments and I saw the name Xenos. I just had to say that my friend goes there and I used to go, that is not a Church, it is a crazy cult!

I'm in Bexley. But I would have to ask my parents if I could meet up :\

That's awesome- I'll leave it open ended until tomorrow night to give people a chance to respond and then I'll set up a place and time!

I'm in Powell, so pretty easy access to anywhere.  Plus I travel all over the Ohio valley for work, so I'm super easy for travelling.  My only rule is that beer be involved.  I'll bring the hymnal.

If everyone interested in attending could let me know what part of town they're in, I would be happy to try and organize something. Personally I'm in Clintonville.

ya know, we could just have a "revival meetin'" somewhere and drink some beers... :)

Yeah I was telling somebody I work with that her church is just a community center with singing because she goes to a soft "believe what you want" type of place- which in my opinion is more insidious than a dogmatic automaton factory. There is a group called xenos that kind of reminds me of that as well.
As far as a community group for free thinkers- I'm all for it but I'd stray away from calling it church for sure! The godbots would jump all over that equivocation to religion and then use it as a debate point, I can just hear them now. Or go the other direction and call it an "atheist genuflection center", but I think the joke would be lost on most.

Yeah that's true.  Your point about lack of belief in magic is actually a pretty interesting (and somewhat sobering) point about our struggle to fit in to a religious society.  People need a context to hang out and enjoy each other.  Church gives people a significant focal point to build a society around.  Yeah it's based on bullshit - and honestly I think a lot of people in it even really know that in their hearts.  But the society they create, and the rituals they share truly ARE powerful, even in the midst of the bullshit.  I vote we start a church of non-belief!  And actually attend for more enlightening non-bullshit-laden philosophical purposes with the occasional bake sale!
