Well thanks for the support of my idea folks. It would be great to motivate a campaign of some sort, regardless of its artistic direction.

But to address the comments about defining a "specific goal" for the campaign, I think the obvious reason is to let people know there's an organization called THINK ATHEIST. Fellow atheists can connect and maybe theists could revise their frequent poor opinions of us. My particular angle seeks to personalize the debunking of myths that make atheists so misunderstood and hated. Since the name of the organization is THINK ATHEIST, it seems logical that we ask the public to do the same (or understand more what it is we DO think) when we advertise. It keeps it short, like a tag-line; which makes it catchy and therefore infinitely more memorable!

Aside from artistic ideas, however, do we have any funding ideas?

I must admit, Piper's idea is much more agreeable than the thought of a giant Dick Cheney staring down from a billboard. All kidding aside, I do think that it is great idea to identify atheism with common, normal people doing common, normal things. Good call. :)

I like Piper's idea, too. And to answer Philip; yes. ;-)

I think letting people know that there are others out there who think and feel the way they do on these subjects will give atheists more courage to stand up and be counted and agnostics more courage to question their beliefs and the beliefs of others. No sacred cows!

CAMPAIGN IDEA: Individual atheists "thinking" about something related to a myth or misconception about atheists. For example, a billboard could show an atheist doing something neighborly with the text tag "I THINK... being a good neighbor is a virtue," and then add our tag, "I THINK... ATHEIST." Each ad could have a different atheist dispelling a different myth. The idea is to show atheists as normal people who do normal things. It could help the cause, I think!

I totally vote for that pic, minus the lolcat-speak. (Interesting sidenote: Google's top three suggestions for "Dick Cheney" are hunting, evil, and shooting. Further evidence!)
