I don't know how common this little construction is, I remember learning about it when studying geometry.


It may be worth noticing the side lengths of the triangles involved... 3,5,8,13 - Fibonacci numbers.

The reason this occurs is that the angle of the hypotenuse of the dark blue triangle is different from that of the yellow one.

in other words it is not because of Fibonacci numbers
