Are there any members here who are musicians who gig for a living?

I'm a professional musician and I play harp and piano and gig/write and arrange music for a living. A great deal of classical music which was written by major composers is considered sacred music, such as "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" or the choral work in Beethoven's 9th Symphony. I don't have a problem listening to or playing such music. It's the creation of the music that I'm interested in, not what it may have represented centuries ago in which case was often commissoned by the monarach who employed the musician. My problem lies in playing for current church services. I play weddings in churches and 99% of the weddings I do are Christian in nature which don't bother me. I never see the people again. However I occassionally get requests to play for a Sunday service, if I find the money acceptable.  If  I do accept, I generally don't bother to explain my own philosophy but always after the services I'm told things like, "Your playing is a gift from God", or "God must be smiling down on you from Heaven", any number of expressions or platitudes, which make me uncomfortable and I am never quite sure what to say. I don't like "going along with the masses" because that  seems misleading and it's incorrect on several levels but on the other hand, I don't want to proselytize Atheism either. Do any of you have thoughts on this or perhaps I shouldn't play in churches at all. Maybe that is being hypocritcal of me.
