The Republicans are great at self-delusion. They were sure, for example, that they had The White House in the bag during 2012 Presidential election.
Lately, they seem sure they can ride the Benghazi situation and "the Obamacare disaster" into domination of the Senate. They don't realize that as serious as the bungle in Benghazi was, for all but the hardest-core Republicans it's become a yawn.
As for Obamacare, according to a recent CNN Poll, "61% want Congress to leave the Affordable Care Act alone (12%) or make some changes to the law in an attempt to make it work better (49%)."
Given their myopia when it comes to women, ethnic minorities, and gays, their main appeal will continue to be to WASP males and some of their WASP wives.
When it comes to women, while they don't put their feet in their mouths with the almost weekly frequency of recent years, gems still come out of their mouths from time to time.
Hispanics have heard some of them talk about fixing the undocumented immigrant problem, but it looks like Hell will freeze over before the Republicans will do anything to make this minority happy campers.
Blacks voting for the GOP in any significant numbers? You've got to be kidding!
And what percentage of gays are going to go out of their way to help a Republican agenda?
The Dems don't have to worry about voter attitudes this Fall, they have to worry about voter turnout, and their voter turnout likely depends upon being the same old same old, only a little bit more obviously.
