Why would God create a world capable of such horrific natural disasters?

Not such an intelligent design, creating a world that frequently slaughters hundreds of thousands of men, women and children. What is the religious excuse for natural disasters?

There isn't a good excuse. A good competent God wouldn't have created a world with such possibilities for disaster.

I agree, there isn't a good excuse. I don't even know what the bad excuses would be, though...

Oh, I can tell you what the bad excuses are. The most popular one is god "allows" these things for "mysterious reasons" because all things work together for good for god's will. Also a lot of times theists will say god allows these things because he has given us free will. I don't personally see the connection with that one but I hear it all the time. I also hear this one:  "It's god's will and god's will is not for us to question" which kind of falls under the "mysterious reasons" category.

Oh, that just  makes me gag. Thanks though :)
