hello, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.

but a question has always plagued me.

You always hear it is a sin to murder, it is a sin to hate people (always with exceptions), it is a sin to like children, it's a sin to steal, etc. etc. etc.

But why is it a sin to eat shellfish?

LOL @ number 4.
5. The first Israelite who tried it had a severe allergic reaction and died. Conclusion: it must be of the devil, so its outlawed.
It was probably the first one. The Israelites liked to define themselves as people who were markedly different from the pagans around them.
In-case you were seriously asking where its from, its found in Leviticus 11:9-12.
I knew it was in A Leviticus somewhere, but I really don't understand why. So did God make everything, except Satan made shellfish?
I've never heard a real explanation given, logical or illogical.
before the fall of Lucifer, everything evil was made by God. I mean...the reason for the plagues in Egypt were apparently because god "hardened the heart" of the king.
Haha, I had almost forgotten that it's only a few lines down where it says that bats are birds.
I asked my favoite Aunt, Chovy -- and she said to quit carping about shellfishness because it gave her a haddock.

As a cultural materialist in archaeo/anthro, I tend towards Nelson's explanation ( which is the same as that of author Marvin Harris). Oh, Harris also mentions that pigs are expensive to keep in the arid environment that the Levant was becoming at that period of time -- pigs need quite a bit of water.
I must admit I had to read that about 4 times to really get it.

THEN I giggled.

he he!
