Why do people we all know and work with, just "assume" that we believe what they believe? This usually becomes self evident around christmas, when everyone just assumes you are a believer in christ?

Happens every year around this time. People automatically assume, you believe as they do.

They hand you a religious card with some religious crap in it, and a quote from the greatest lie ever told.

I don't understand why anyone would just assume that I believe what they believe.

There is a double standard here. It is acceptable to talk about god as long as it's their god.

If you do not believe as they do, it is always an uncomfortable situation.

Natural tendencies?  I see atheists all the time assume that other atheists believe or think the same as them.  But, I share your frustrations at the religious assumptions.

Bingo.

people assume everyone is like the prevailing majority. . .if you were in the middle east, they'd probably assume you were a muslim. . .the more we're quiet or we don't correct them, the longer they get to continue with their assumptions. . .

I agree it must be that majority thing.

Well, that's ok..I like being in the minority!
