We've all heard that people that listen to Mozart and similar music are smarter than those that listen to other music. I know this has a lot to do with stereotyping, but I wonder if there is any truth behind it.

As atheists, we are very educated individuals, so I know that by polling you all, I might could get an idea of whether or not there is any correlation between music and intellectual capacity or music and freethought. Perhaps atheists tend to listen to one particular type of music.

Personally, my first choice is rap, followed by classic rock. I know that is an odd combination, but that is the two types of stations that I always tune in to.

What is your choice of music? If you have more than one, you can list them in the order that you like best. Can't wait to see your answers!

I listen to, and write a lot of melodic metal-core.

I generally like any genre other then techno or rap/hiphop. I'm a fan of real instruments and originality.

I like ska, punk rock, country and acoustic singer/songwriter kind of stuff.

I'm also partial to swing, jazz and blues.

I also DO enjoy classical.

I tolerate any music other than country. My husband and brother (also atheist) hate country as well.

I think it's because I was raised listening to it. though it is rather good...except the drunken hillbilly songs. lol

My playlist goes from Bring Me The Horizon, to Brooks and Dunn. My metal head friends think I'm weird. lol

I love country! Yes, it's so true that if one plays a country CD backwards, the house is rebuilt, the dog returns home, the girlfriend comes back, but there's something there that I like a lot.

My favorite style is blues though.

Female country singers are, on the whole, much hotter than rock chicks.

I agree with you're last sentence.

I forgot bluegrass. I got an old banjo from my dad's friend about a year ago and have been fascinated with it ever since.

alternative rock (Yes, Genesis, ELP)
Wouldn't that be progressive rock?  BTW, ELP is awesome!
yes, progressive. I'm not one to nitpick over genres because actually..they change over time. punk rock is now considered alternative..and when grunge first became popular, THAT was alternative.
Straight up metal for me. Power metal, progressive metal, thrash metal, death metal, folk metal. Right now I'm listening to the new Korpiklaani album, if anyone here knows them?
Are they kind of folk-metal? Not familiar, I don't think, but are they a bit like Eleuviete?
Yes, they are similar to Eleuviete. They're a folk metal band from Finland, with most of their songs in an archaic dialect of Finnish. They do have some instrumentals and songs in English though, mostly about drinking. :)
Anything from 1954-1962.  About once a month I play some Bob Dylan or Stones.  For a real treat I go to YouTube and watch Freddie Mercury's "Bohemian Rhapsody".  As a matter of fact I'm going to do that right now.
