What Type of Music Do You Prefer?
We've all heard that people that listen to Mozart and similar music are smarter than those that listen to other music. I know this has a lot to do with stereotyping, but I wonder if there is any truth behind it.
As atheists, we are very educated individuals, so I know that by polling you all, I might could get an idea of whether or not there is any correlation between music and intellectual capacity or music and freethought. Perhaps atheists tend to listen to one particular type of music.
Personally, my first choice is rap, followed by classic rock. I know that is an odd combination, but that is the two types of stations that I always tune in to.
What is your choice of music? If you have more than one, you can list them in the order that you like best. Can't wait to see your answers!

Yea, avoid mainstream rap at all costs if you can, you will not be pleased. I'm also a fan of some of the older rap and hip-hop, I just can't really name any artists. Most of my music I get from Sirius radio so I'm just listening to certain channels, Octane, Faction, Shade 45, and Pop39k, but you wont find Tech N9ne on there.
If you haven't heard of The Seatbelts before, I suggest starting with Gotta Knock a Little Harder, Blue, Tank, then Space Lion. The group was formed to make all the music for a anime called Cowboy Bebop and then disbanded, which is a shame because they should be selling out concerts.

Of all genres I like punk most of all. Bands like Bad Religion, The Sex PIstols, GC5, 999, The Generators, The Skids, The Adicts, The Damned, They have always inspired me. Though I hate the "newer" punk. Like Green Day, Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Blink 182, etc....
I'm also a bit of a metal fan. But again, only the older stuff. Like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden ,etc...
I also like Rock 'n roll a lot, especially Elvis, Bob Segar and AC/DC (no, they're NOT hardrock).
I kinda love all genres, going from blues to drum and bass, as long as it dates from before 1980, for some strange reason. I don't know why, but every band I listened to either STARTED sometime before 1980 and are still active now, or started and ended before 1980. For example, I love 70's (and a bit of 80's) hiphop, but once the timer hits -let's say- 1985, I don't seem to like it anymore.
Oh, and I also love Disco and Funk a lot!

My car satellite radio has a classical station, a jazz station and a "classic alternative" station pre-programmed. I am very fond of all late '70s/80s (new wave/punk) music: the Clash, Talking Heads, English Beat, Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, the Pretenders and, yes, even Duran Duran and Boy George (terrible, I know)!! I love big band and it was a treat for me that both my boys were in their high school jazz bands and I got to hear lots of that. My boys (21 & 19) point me in the direction of lots of new music I like (New Pornographers, Tokyo Police Club, Vampire Weekend) but I do not have the attention span to seek out new music for myself. Recently downloaded to iTunes and revisited Patty Smith (after reading review of her book). And, I really enjoy listening to classical music. When I want to chill I listen to classical or jazz. Oh, yes, I love Earth Wind and Fire - when I want to dance around the house that's what I put on.....all 'n all I have pretty eclectic taste...the only thing I don't really care for is metal/hair band ballads with whiny voices, whiny guitars. California Girls was also a cute song.

I'm a mixed bag. I do appreciate the classical composers. But I'm the biggest fan of rock, classic rock, some jazz, some pop (not the stuff that seems popular now though), J-Pop... But mostly rock.
I must say that I don't care for country, rap or hip-hop very much at all.

Hmm, let me see...
I like electronic and classical music, anything with repetitive and simple beats, especially game soundtracks. The Half-Life series, Touhou and System Shock 2 come to mind. I haven't listened to jazz really, but I'd probably like it.
I would rather strangle myself with my own intestines than listen to:
-Lyrical music: Some exceptions apply, for instance if they're in other languages or FROM game soundtracks (RE: Your Brains from Left 4 Dead 2, Still Alive from Portal).
-Rap: Autotuning plus swearing quickly while rhyming occasionally does not equal music.
-Metal and all that Scream-Into-The-Microphone-Constantly sort of music: Eeeurgh, my ears are melting
-Anything even remotely new or related to popular culture: No one seems to have talent anymore, it's all autotuned and/or over-advertised to create far more hype than deserved.

Rock and Metal with meaningful lyrics. Pop until it melts my brain. No country whatsoever. Normally whatever is on the radio that i like.

I listen to pretty much anything. I like anything from Mozart to Eminem, to Elton John and Slipknot. I wouldn't dismiss any genre entirely because there's always something I will like by someone. I mightn't like a genre in general but there might be a certain artists, or even just a song by them that I will like.
