I don't tend to stick to one genre... I like thoughtful music, like Pearl Jam, One Day as a Lion, Flogging Molly, are three that get a lot of play in our house.  I rarely ever like Country and rap, because too often there is denigration of women as objects and glorification of sexuality/intoxication/self-pity rather than introspection. and I don't care to work hard to find the gems (I also don't like the sounds and feel of the music). One of my daughters is very into Swedish pop (Lykee Li, the Sounds) and I find some of it to be quite good.  My other daughter listens to hip-hop and pop.  They rarely tolerate my and my husband's love of punk rock and alternative... :)  Oh, and I am the only one in the house that likes folk. :(

I was once asked for my desert island 10. If I were stranded on a desert island, which 10 albums would get me through the rest of my life.

While my taste in music is extremely broad, my answer to the question was and is "Any 10 Baden Powell albums." No, not Baden Powell the founder of the Boyscouts, but the Brazilian guitarist and singer who blended Brazilian folk rhythms, the samba tradition, mainstream jazz, blues, flamenco, and classical guitar into what I believe is the most listenable music anywhere.

BUT, like I said, my musical taste is broad and can encompass NIN, country punk, punk, classical, Ministry, electronica, Dimmu Borgir, Shania Twain. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Hi everyone!

I've got eclectic tastes in music...

Mainly : Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard solo & Brendan Perry solo, Arcana, Midnight Syndicate, Nox Arcana, Conjure One, Bryan Ferry.

Some Dark Wave/Ambient/Dark Ambient like : Amethystium,  Inade, Sysyphe, Ordo Funebris, Irfan,   David Parsons, Sephiroth, Desiderii Marginis & Dahlia's Tear.  Also some Meditative Music like : Rasa & Rajna.

Some Rock like Pink Floyd & Evanescence. Some Dance, Pop & Techno. Lots of 80's music & also some oldies like The Chordettes.   A few Movie Soundtracks like Blade Runner (Vangelis), Rio (Various), Cat People (Giorgio Moroder), Legend (Tangerine Dream) & even some typical Halloween Haunt music (any time of the year, that is.)

I don't listen to Country or western or Heavy Metal/ Hard Rock/Punk  exept maybe for a few hits by Marylin Manson.

And that was just some of it.

Ska, reggae, and punk rock (especially Bad Religion). I listen to some other stuff too, but those are my favorites. I enjoy some classical, and cannot stand country.

I too think musicians learn along the way to appreciate music differently, somewhat analogous to how painters learn along the way to appreciate paintings differently, people who draw learn themselves to look differently or more sharply at certain details and so forth. So talking about differently, what do you think of Charlemagne Palestine?

I listen to all kinds of music but hiphop is probably my favorite genre. I really like Greydon Square (a atheist rapper), here's a few of his songs.

I listen to pretty much everything, not to sound like "that guy".
My main genre is classic rock: The Beatles, Queen, The Who, etc.
I also love "hipster" music like Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and the like.
I listen to a bit of country, jazz, swing, blues, classical...pretty much everything except rap and hip hop.

I am attuned to odd time-signatures, heavily syncopated rhythms, progressive styling, etc. I prefer music without the human voice. Most varieties of progressive rock/metal or post-rock/metal. Most varieties of classical music. Most exceptions to these are the cream of the crop of the many bands listened to throughout my stages of growing up, as well as a lot of classic and psychedelic rock.

I think Queen is the best rock band of all time =)
