I like hard rock - Motoerhead, Metallica, Children of Bodem, Drowning Pool. This comes as a surprise to people who don't know me that well because it seems incongruous with my middle class English accent and my being a perpetual student interested in Renaissance thought. I am not sure why that is tho. I like powerful angry music to walk and run to.

In the UK at least most people have no religious faith and this includes highly educated people and uneducated ones. My husband has no academic qualifications at all and has trouble with literacy but he is an atheist. Both of my parents are intellectuals and atheists whilst my in laws are electricians, fork lift drivers and supemarket check out people and atheists. Perhaps in America where Christianity is so ingrained there is more of a correlation between classical music, education and atheism?

Before my awakening(Aug. 2011) I thought classic rock and roll was king. Hadn't actually even listened to any music for last 20 yrs. Coma and all. But, now as a shelter from my pitiful wife's constant tyrades about my pure evilness I have retreated back to music. Trying to find those meaningful songs to "relate to" was like to catch a speeding truck. Wasn't happening. Then, while riding with my nephew, another godless heathen,  a song came on the radioand they were singing the very words I was thinking. And those words weren't pretty but they were what I was feeling and thinking about. Uncannily so. This music is commonly called altenative rock or alt rock. There's some enlightened children out there making sense and singing No, screaming, at all of us. Not just the pissed off teenagers with the tattoo's. So, my answer is: alternative rock and roll in it's many forms. Give it a listen.

I don't listen to music a lot, i rarely do actually. Nevertheless i usually hear the beatles, muse, classic music, merengue.

Favourite = Rock

I love all kinds of rock ranging from ambient post rock to metal (I have some limits to loudness, which varies depending on mood). My favourite bands are probably Muse, Explosions in the Sky, Radiohead, Enter Shikari, Led Zep, Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Black Flag

2nd Fave = Rap

90s East Coast Hip Hop (Nas Mainly) is probably my most listened to and I love Underground British Rap (Lowkey, Akala, Reveal). Thats probably because lyrically it is the most political genre out there and probably has the most coming out of it at the moment, whilst rock is slightly scarce in comparison, atleast currently

3rd Rave = Blues

Lyrically it doesn't inspire me but the emotion often in the vocals is amazing, as is the guitar-work

I'm just getting into Jazz but I don't know enough to say i love it yet, and Classical doesn't hugely appeal to me, every one in a while i'll hear a song that blows me away but I never listen to it by myself

I like anything with alot of energy. For me that is usually in the power metal or punk groups but I also enjoy select rap artists like Syqnys and hardstyle dance. Every piece of music I enjoy has either a high energy content or a very powerful message.

With the exception of a few songs here and there  (ie, any of Johnny Cash's non-religious songs) I can't stand country or modern rap. 

For me it's a bit of a spread, I think.. Classic Rock from the 60's and 70's. Early 80's "New Wave" along with late 80's hair bands with some Metallica, Megadeth. Queensryche and Helloween mixed in. Currently it's the likes of Mushroomhead, Five Fingered Death Punch, Monster Magnet, NIN, Tool, Rammstein and the Butthole Surfers..... And from time to time I'll be in the mood for Rat Pack stuff.. I'm also not adverse to classic R&B at times (The Stylistics, Commodores, The Delfonics, etc...).

  I prefer the classics, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Queen, add The Doors, Black Sabbath, Hendricks and some Alice Cooper for a little flavor.  I like the newer Country music for the harmonies (Taylor Swift for her Innocence.)  I don't care for crap music (sorry, I forgot the "C" is silent,) it's monotone ghetto poetry set to a painful drumbeat (but even rap has it's exceptions.)  I like a little Bluegrass (Alison Krauss,) but for the most part just good ol' Rock and Roll (Seger, Stones etc.)
