As the title says..."what's your favourite question to ask a theist"?

You may have many favourites...I would like to hear from you guys about yours.

I have a personal favourite which I often use when they start spouting their spew that GOD wrote the bible at the beginning of time, he created everything....

"OK. If GOD wrote the BIBLE at the beginning of time like you say...some 14.5 BILLION, that's BILLION years ago, What language was it written in?"

Most theists I know don't even know what language JESUS spoke. It's sad really.

Another of my favourites is this one...

"Why did it take GOD 10 BILLION years to make the planet EARTH and then a further 4.5 BILLION years to make MAN?"

There's always a spewy reply of some sort or another which usually gets my goat and the theist is appalled at my outburst of laughter.

So come on you guys....let 'em have it....share your ammo with us.

well I find myself needing to say something in a lot of instances in my life when pretty much everyone I know is a believer. I find great humour and satisfaction watching them either stutter or tee themselves up for a good god bashing.I am quite repulsed by the whole idea of the imaginary friend.

I always end up hearing the usual..." you feel him in your heart"....WTF? where?

Thanks for the contribution though. :)

Actually I feel ideas in my head, sometimes there is the tell-tale presence of a burning smell, or my forehead swelling...

What kind of an asshole is God if he lets some people "feel him in their heart" and not others?

Whrere did you get that? ANyone can feel God and you can too if you want to

@Dave Stallworth

Please read the following blog entry and tell me why I did not feel your god?

http://spoonheim.blogspot.ca/2009/10/atheism.html

Yes. I walked out into our garden this morning, picked our beans, tasted our few strawberries, said good morning to our frog, and ate a few peas. A lite brease was russleing the trees, and I heard this soft voice wispering to me, 'the theists are full of ancient horse coprolite, read Darwin, study chemistry, watch protozoa divid, and know that nature and I are one'.

Of course, I could be delusional.....

Actually, James, "horse coprolite" makes excellent fertilizer for your garden, once you leech all of the salts out of it --

That is a mouthful, right there. 'if you want to' sums up the whole reason that religion continues to hold people, because people desperately want to.

I thought I felt God a few times. Once it turned out to be constipation, the other a touch of gout. I attributed it to God, prayed over it, and in the first case it eventually passed. In the second, cherry juice helped immensely.

Is it the effect of depth or altitude?

Agreed!

I say: the Bible is just flat out factually wrong about the immobility of the Earth and there being a fixed firmament of the Heavens (and those aren't merely speculative interpretation -- violence was done against people who dared to suggest otherwise -- that IS what it says and it IS wrong), fails to set any kind of age of consent out of ignorance of and indifference to the harm marrying off young girls does to the child, failing to call out slavery as an inexcusable abomination, ignorance on the true causes of disease, ignorance on mental illness (calling it demon possession), the patriarchal misogyny, the commandments to murder ones own child (and the later supposed execution of that plan with Jesus in a scapegoating human sacrifice), the commandments to genocide and infanticide of the Amalekites, Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, commandments to stone people to death.

And if you want me to believe in SPITE of all that, then I must demand that you demonstrate that YOUR 'god' is real as per the instructions in your own Bible, 1 Kings 18 (and please do so under the watchful eye of someone like JREF). If you cannot demonstrate your god is real, as per the claims of your own religion, then I ask, should YOU be slaughtered as they allegedly did to the priests of Baal?

27 “Shout louder!” he said. “Surely he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or busy, or traveling. Maybe he is sleeping and must be awakened.”

40 Then Elijah commanded them, “Seize the prophets of Baal. Don’t let anyone get away!” They seized them, and Elijah had them brought down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered there.

thank you dark star...sharing is good.

I love the fact that just like DNA.....most atheists I have conversed with are different in opinion and personality. Very good post.
