What is your take on extraterrestrial intelligences, have you seen "UFO"s , or even been in one if you lucky and caught by a surprise ? Have you met any people from other planets ? Or simply if you have not, what are your thoughts about the topic, and would you like to have an experience ?
Do you believe in the existence extraterrestrials ? (Belief is based on faith or trust without looking at the evidence, data, mathematical models, that is because your friend saw something, and you trust your friend, without research, that is belief)
Do you understand the existence of extraterrestrials ?
(Understanding is based on collecting data , evidence, mathematical models such as drake equation, astrobiology research etc and deriving a conclusion)
Do you know the existence of extraterrestrials ?
(That is when you have had your own personal experience, scrutinized it to be legitimate experience, as well as comparing your experience with other's evidence data and so on)

So, a subjective report (remember how eyewitness reports are unreliable and memory even more so?) and a vague photo of some bright spots in the sky. Oh, and some mocked up footage by Disney.
Even if he saw bright lights in the sky, it is irrational to jump to 'Aliens!!'. It's like hearing hoofbeats and immediately assuming it is a unicorn rather than a horse or even a zebra. There are plenty of other explanations which are more likely, such as human aircraft, or even reflected light from a source of the ground, judging by that photo. Might even be sunlight reflected by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.

I really like that allegory! :)
Thanks, Strega. :D I adapted it from what is reportedly a long-standing phrase in the medical community when diagnosing an illness. "When you hear hoofbeats; think horse, not zebra."
Insofar as we don't have evidence for either, they are equivalent.
The closest to god is J. Craig Venter. He has created life. It even has its website embedded into its DNA.
Craig Venter = GOD
There, I said it.
Interesting guy, this Venter chap. And he was born in Utah! Hows that for overcoming a handicap...
I recommend Howard Fast, Time And The Riddle short story collection. Most Arthur C.Clarke is good stuff, of course 2001 A Space Odyssey, and Childhoods End is fantastic.
As has been said here already I have no issue with life elsewhere. I also have no issue with intelligent life elsewhere and life more intelligent than us. It seems to me that there has been a major shift fairly recently, perhaps hinging largely on extremophiles. My sense is that life elsewhere was once considered laughable and it does not seem to be so much anymore.
I have seen a couple of flying objects I could not identify in my life. I do not assume they were extraterrestrials. They might simply have been garden variety time travelers from the future or perhaps demons. (Joke. =P) I think life exists elsewhere because nature is slanted toward complexity, evolution, and life.
I don't buy that aliens made us. Atheists will ask Creationists where God came from, and I would ask those who believe E.T.s designed us where the E.T.s came from. Somebody somewhere had to go to all the trouble of evolving, or so it seems to me. Personally I had to go through middle school as a lung fish. It wasn't easy. Let me tell ya!
Very nice! =D Me out there gasping on the soccer field! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61oerMwQF6g
