What habits or actions do you continue to do that would get your Atheism card revoked?  This is totally tongue-in-cheek, but I have realized how my somewhat religious upbringing has colored my language as well as other things.

So, I figured we could have a confessional discussion where we admit our sins against atheism.  After all, if folk are going to persist in calling atheism a religion, maybe we should indulge a little and see how it works out for us.

My sins include using language like "God only knows" and saying to people who have sneezed "bless you".  What the hell are you heathens doing that is the antithesis of atheism?

UPDATE: This post continues to get attention and one thing I have noticed, with both amusement and frustration, is that some people do not seem to notice that this is largely tongue-in-cheek.  I posted this as a way of acknowledging the influence that religion has had and continues to have on our lives, our society, our language, and our habits.  We all know that atheism is not a religion, goddammit! ;-)

Have a blessed day.

Nothing is sacred!  Except my beer.

I love to sing....and I'll confess that I still sing some gospel songs. LOL.
I can still belt out a few good gospel songs from my old Pentecostal days, lol!
I still like Amazing Grace

My greatest 'atheist sin' is a lingering feeling that there might be something special about 'life', as in an 'energy' that we do not yet understand.  I realize that for people who are very well versed in the natural sciences this might seem like mere superstition, but I'm much more into math/physics and have never been able to keep up with all the nomenclature in biology so my knowledge is weak there.

I continue to cling to the idea that perhaps one day we'll discover some discreet facet of quantum mechanics (discreet even by the standards of quantum mechanics) that presents us with evidence of some 'life force' behind consciousness.

I can :P

But as Heather hinted at... Biology and nature have always been at the forefront of my life experience. I am totally naturalistic in that regard :)

Science does not prove me wrong on this 'feeling' of mine, but there is simply no basis for this feeling other than superstition.  I feel that all superstition should be removed, otherwise we leave ourselves open to being unnecessarily biased.  I let this little superstition exist but I keep it in a tight little corner at the back of my mind.
Heather, if that is a sin, then I am guilty of that one too.
As an almost lifelong Atheist, I am damn near 'sinless' - now, since I retired 23 years ago. I've been highly active, shouting from the housetops & in newspapers, my fervent dis-belief. I have picketed churches, the state Capitol. the White house, Congress & the Supreme Court. Virtually all my friends are Atheists, cultivated over the years. I leave Atheist literature & Atheist publications at the VA hospital on every visit. Come to think of it, I'm a goddam SAINT, when it comes to godlessness.

Hear Hear! to a sinless life! YEEEEES ! :D

So sad about your family name :(   what with all the shyte going down in Wisconsin :(

Oh my Lord!  I've been so goddamned careless;  Jesus, what a blunder!  Holy Moses!  I pray this doesn't continue.  I guess I'll just have to have faith that it won't, for heaven's sake.
I say all the "god" curses.   Whatever, it's too much effort to change.  At least now I can say them without worrying about going to hell.
