Not believing in God is like not shaving.

'Oh you're growing a beard' people say.

'No, I'm just not shaving.'

Like it. To me, not believing in God is like suddenly being "in" on the joke. :)

Exactly!  :)

Excellent!  I think I'm going to add this to my list of favorite quotes!

It is like being the kid who finds out Santa Clause isn't real first; then being told by everybody that I have to keep my mouth shut because it's fun to pretend for everybody else.

I feel you here.

Spot on

I'm confused by your analogy. I would stipulate instead that "not believing in God" would be more akin to an indifference to your facial hair growth, insofar as "not believing in God" is not as much a bit of semantic wordplay, but a fundamental misunderstanding of what atheism is in the first place.

Cute joke though.

I think you may be splitting hairs. :)

Benny's saying he's confused by your analogy is splitting hairs?

Bo, if you're still reading replies, the Jesuits I knew 65+ years ago, if ordered to say he's splitting hairs, would have obeyed and said he's splitting hairs.

Maybe by now you know more about analogies.

It is like seeing the world around you for the first time.

Not believing in god is like... awesome.

It's like walking barefoot on the beach but everyone else is wearing shoes and looking at YOU funny.
