It has happened in the past in similar situations for real!..I still hold some level of fear that I very well could be burned at the stake for expressing my non-belief...in the presence of fundamental religious irrationality and bigotry here in the State of Arizona. I wish I could be absolutely certain it could never happen....but....

 Many catholics I know think that the last pope went crazy when he accepted the premise of biological evolution. I valued that that example of the catholic perceived papal "insanity" !!!

I expect many (particularly non-Catholics) would quickly No True Christian him. But I would not be surprised at all to find that some Catholics, particularly in heavily Catholic-dominated countries, would go with it.
