Do you believe the saying to be true? I know a couple atheists who believe that despite its "super natural" roots.
What do you guys think?

Well, if the person asking the question means Karma in the sense of some sort of mystical force that redresses the balance such that a person committing one or more bad acts gets back what they give (and the reverse with regard to good acts) then, obviously not. There's absolutely no evidence for such a thing. Moreover, it seems pretty self-evidently false since it seems there are any number of people who are bad and have only good come to them and people who are incredible examples of humanity who have nothing but bad happen to them.

But, if the questions refers to karma in the sense of "you reap what you sow", that you get out of a relationship what you put into it, then I have no problem believing that; again, that seems self-evidently true. However, I would say that there seems to be no need to call this "karma" when karma has the nonsense character it does from mysticism. It's the same way that people say "acupuncture" works because there seems to be some biomechanism of short term pain relief (though no better than placebo) when "acupuncture" carries such nonsense notions of energy lines in the body from Chinese "medicine". Don't confuse the issue I say. Don't give people license to act as if nonsense beliefs are reasonable beliefs to have by muddying the waters.

Bohunk.

Hey, it's a slow week, if "It" comes around, I'll be glad to go around with "It".

I would love to be able to believe in Karma in the sense that people get what's coming to them but over the years its been proven to me that there is nothing close to Karma going on out there when it comes to things that people deserve or don't deserve.

Gotta say no to that it looks like it some times but it just is not true to may people get away with horrible crimes and are never held to account.
