.... and why do some theists say it proves the universe was designed?

I'm more of a prose writer, having written only a couple of pieces of poetry in my life. Once, in a drunken stupor (my favorite kind) I contemplated the similarities between the words, "tortoise" and "porpoise," and came up with,
The Purple Porpoise
If a tortoise
Is a turtle,
Is a porpoise,
A purple?
If not,
Why not?
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on October 16, 2012 at 12:05am OK, so here's the thing - once I learn the meaning of a word not in my birth language, it ceases to be "babble" to me, and becomes a real word. I learned (from a TV show) as early as the '60's (which I recall as 'through a glass darkly'), that "Strega," in Italian, means, "witch" - therefore, I add such modifiers as, "La Stega," or "Lady la Strega," simply because you seem like a nice lady, and when I call you simply, "Strega," I feel I should be screaming the word, pointing accusingly, and carrying a torch, and I just don't feel that your apparent temperament deserves that treatment.
Permalink Reply by Molly Brown-Fuller on October 16, 2012 at 12:36pm Strega is also a rather delicious Italian liquor. If you like oranges, that is.

Is it a bit like Cointreau, a triple-sec? Sounds like it would be good in coffee. I've also used a blender and vanilla icecream to make liqueur milkshakes - sure, they're fattening, but after a few, you don't care.
Permalink Reply by Unseen on October 16, 2012 at 8:28pm I think Galliano is probably the most famous brand name strega-type liquor available in the U.S.
If you like Harvey Wallbangers, strega (typically Galliano) is one of the main ingredients.
Permalink Reply by Strega on October 16, 2012 at 9:37pm Thanks Unseen, I hadn't compared the two, and you are right, they do have similarities. But Strega is kind of deeper somehow. In my mind, anyway :)
Permalink Reply by Unseen on October 16, 2012 at 11:36pm I think in a way we're both right. There is a Liquore Strega as a brand name, but strega is also a style of liqueur, and Galliano is classified as a liquer in the strega style. Liquore Strega and Galliano are similar but different, as you observed, but both are strega style liqueurs.
Permalink Reply by James Cox on October 17, 2012 at 12:57am Minor observation, does discussing causation some how map to liqueur consumption?
Permalink Reply by Strega on October 16, 2012 at 9:19pm Arch! You just don't want to be known as cavorting with witches, you old charmer :)
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on October 16, 2012 at 10:53pm I've been accused of doing far worse, but so far, no convictions --
Permalink Reply by archaeopteryx on October 16, 2012 at 12:16am (See, you replace the "t's" in "tortoise" with "p's," and you get, "porpoise" and "purple" - just in case you hadn't figured it out. I usually present this with green "t's" and purple "p's," but it's such a hassle to manipulate the HTML to make that happen, so I didn't do it) - and that's the truth![]()
