I am often astounded at how much the world has changed in my lifetime. When I was a child back in the 70s:

-          Microwave ovens and answering machines were considered cutting edge technology.

-          We used to eat at a restaurant called Sambo’s, whose logo/mascot was a little spear-wielding, loin-cloth-wearing, thick-lipped black man. Something that is certainly verboten today (and appropriately too, I guess).

-          You couldn’t get a vegetarian meal anywhere, except perhaps a Chinese food restaurant, and Chinese was considered “foreign food,” considering that other ethnic food restaurants were non-existent. Thai, Greek, Vietnamese food? Forget about it!

Besides all the changes (which I am not making judgments on per se, just stating the fact that things change) there are many things I miss about being a kid, such as climbing trees, riding my bike after school, jumping on a trampoline (not only doing it, but being able to do it), and eating anything I wanted to without worrying if it was ethical, sustainable, or bad for my health.  *SIGH*

One thing I do miss in particular is playing down near the creek—searching for cool rocks or fossils, swinging from vines and branches, pretending I had some magical power and was on a quest, or just skipping rocks and thinking it was really cool when a turtle or snake popped its head up out of the water.

I can also remember running through overgrown fields catching grasshoppers, which seemed to be everywhere, or else doing the same thing at night to catch fireflies (the coolest insects ever). I can’t remember the last time I saw a grasshopper or a firefly.

Those were the days!

What is something you miss about being a child?

Not as old as me, those cartoons were when I was about 35!
I wish I could reminisce about those care-free days of my youth, but honestly my childhood was not a particularly happy one. There were some memorable moments, but few that I think back on and feel a longing for. One of my fondest memories is when my father used to set up his telescope in the backyard and show me the Moon, Venus, Mars and Saturn. He would tell me stories about the stars and the planets. But it wasn't long until he stopped taking out his telescope, too busy at work and too tired to bother.... Great memories none-the-less.

My life became distinctly more interesting once I left home at 17 and hitch-hiked cross country. Many adventures, good times and bad. I do believe that my happiest time was when I went to college at age 21. Being able to just fill my head and heart learning about things I loved full time, was such a self indulgent pleasure despite the pressure of being in school. The good old days for sure.
being carefree, having no responsibilities or demands upon me
I miss watching Pokemon and playing it.On GBA and outside.I miss playing Spyro on the playstation and whatever other games my brothers had.
