I think you could aim higher to satisfy your base needs. I have higher standards for my thrill-seeking. Walking Dead is getting boring. Weak characters. Painfully slow plot development. Not enough action. I've tuned out until my minions report to me that the two survivor camps have gone to war. We'll see if it's worth looking at again then.

The creepy, ghastly, gross, and violent are my base needs. That is, they are my unmet base needs from real life. The male television audience seems to agree, given that the Walking Dead is the #1 drama series in basic cable history for adults and men 18-34, adults and men 18-49, and adults and men 25-54. And the ratings have continued to rise since that article was published. On television today the standard for base needs doesn't get much higher than the top of the chart.

I only watch three things on television: NFL Football, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad. I satisfy the need for plot and character development in the pages of books. Beyond that, we always have the classics:

You identify with mindless beings? How am I not surprised... ;)

Naturally, my frequent interactions with you have left me rather sympathetic, Arcus. ;)

You are not the first to desire my intellectual capacity, though I should inform you that eating my brains won't make that happen. ;)

I prefer Mad Men and The Thick of It.

I appreciate the generous offer of your creepy, ghastly, and gross brain, but there's no need to exhaust your entire intellectual capacity to provide me with a single mouthful when The Walking Dead provides a weekly feast of the aforementioned same. ;)

I want women to end the hypocritical practice of proclaiming their inviolable right to have us respect their feelings. Because when I get mad or frustrated at my wife, it is immediately perceived as hurtful and unfair—which is nothing more than her invalidating my feelings. In other words, when she gets mad, I must respect it, but when I get mad, I must not express it lest it be hurtful to her.

Also I'm so completely done with every TV commercial featuring the condescending wife giving the smirking/scolding face to her goofy husband as he commits some household faux pas. This dynamic has been parlayed into entire sitcoms, such as The King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond (am I the only person who couldn't stand that show?).

I would talk to your wife about how you feel. She's not being respectful of your needs. Your feelings do matter just as much as hers and it's healthy for you to express them!

I do, but it's rarely constructive. Anyway I'm only talking about the few-and-far-between times we fight. Overall, we have a great and healthy marriage.

No I hated those shows too.  I hate most sitcoms anyway, except for Seinfeld.

what about Full house? That was our childhood show!

The men in "Full House" were portrayed as responsible. The whole show was a load of cute little kids BEING cute little kids. The plot was even almost believable.
