What century is it again? Interracial Couple is Denied Wedding
Oh, Louisiana.
The best part of the story is the legality of the justice of the peace refusing to perform the marriage on grounds of race. I understand that JoPs must necessarily maintain authority over what ceremonies they officiate, but how is there no qualification on what are acceptable grounds for refusal?
But hey, the JoP isn't a total asshole; he does let black people use his bathroom.
The story has a happy ending. The couple found someone else to marry them and now have a potentially profitable lawsuit on their hands.
